The New Head of Mission to the Consular Office of Japan in Erbil Visits the KDP-FRO Office

Ms. Nagayama Yoshiko, the new Head of Mission to the Consular Office of Japan in Erbil, visited the KDP Foreign Relations Office in Pirmam. She was received by Hoshyar Siwaily, Head of KDP Foreign Relations Office and a number of office members.

Head of KDP-FRO congratulated Ms. Nagayama on her new appointment and wished her success and iterated the role of her predecessor was highly appreciated.  He thanked the Government and the people of Japan for their support to the Kurdistan Region over the past 14 years. The financial and technical assistance provided by Japan have made considerable contributions to improve KRI infrastructure, in particular electricity, water supply and sanitation sectors. He stressed the importance of strengthening relations between Japan and the Kurdistan Region and the significance of the continuation of assistance by Japan to the Kurdistan Region in the future.

The discussions covered the most important issues concerning the Kurdistan Region. The challenges created by COVID-19 and the measures taken by the Kurdistan Region to limit the spread and lessen the impact of the virus were discussed. The current military operations by Turkey and PKK on border areas between Turkey and the Kurdistan Region and their impact on the lives and livelihoods of the people living in the affected areas were highlighted. Views were exchanged on relations with Baghdad, the ongoing negotiations and prospects for holding the federal election in June. PUK and KDP relations and the recent progress made to improve relations were also mentioned in the meeting.    

Ms. Nagayama thanked KDP-FRO for the warm reception and reiterated her country’s commitment to assist the Kurdistan Region and its people.

As a sign of appreciation, the head of KDP-FRO presented a photo of the beautiful town of Akre, hoping that sometime in the near future she will be able to tour the beautiful sceneries of Kurdistan.
